The 2019-20 program update for Queensland’s bulk water opportunities statement (QBWOS) details our achievements towards bulk water security across the state.

The 2019-20 program update for Queensland’s bulk water opportunities statement (QBWOS) details our achievements towards bulk water security across the state.

Each year, the department provides a status update on our 16 policy objectives for Queensland’s bulk water infrastructure.

It also provides a comprehensive annual bulk water account for Queensland.

First release in July 2017, QBWOS is the state’s water security strategy which focusses on striking the right balance between making better use of existing bulk infrastructure and committing to new projects in the future.

It also sets our objectives for considering and responding to emerging water supply issues in Queensland.

Addressing underutilisation is the responsibility of all stakeholders and has the potential to generate significant economic value at much lower cost than new bulk water supply infrastructure.

Bulk water infrastructure that is affordable, and delivers a safe, secure water supply, is integral to Queensland’s economy and helps maximise Queensland’s economic potential.

Bulk water infrastructure encompasses water storage and distribution networks.

As part of the Queensland Bulk Water Opportunity Statement, an interactive online story map and topic layers on the Queensland Globe are available to graphically represent bulk water supply and infrastructure information.
